- Products are difficult to match across retailers and marketplaces.
- Discounts, rebates, claims or billing errors reduce profit.
- Unauthorized sellers or rule breaches are found too late.

Reliable comparison
Product matching for reliable price comparison
A price comparison is useful only when the products are genuinely comparable. DataplexLabs can link exact products through identifiers, distinguish variants, normalise pack or size differences, and review uncertain matches. Similar-product matching is used only when the business question permits an equivalent rather than an identical item.
- Use SKU, GTIN, manufacturer part number or another stable identifier when available
- Compare titles and agreed attributes when identifiers are missing or inconsistent
- Normalise units, pack counts, sizes and variants before calculating price differences
- Separate exact matches from similar or substitute products
- Route uncertain or conflicting matches for manual review instead of forcing a comparison
Methodology
How the work is structured
- 01
Define the commercial question
Agree products, channels, price rules and the action a finding should trigger.
- 02
Join the evidence
Connect approved market, catalogue, contract, rebate and invoice data needed for that question.
- 03
Match and normalise
Resolve product identity, units, packs, terms and effective dates before comparison.
- 04
Review exceptions
Prioritise uncertain matches and high-value variances for human review.
- 05
Deliver an action list
Show the change, supporting evidence, owner and status rather than only a dashboard total.
How we measure success
Agree the measures before delivery starts
These are measurement categories, not performance claims. The relevant definitions and acceptance criteria are agreed for each engagement.
- Coverage
- Share of the agreed product and source scope represented.
- Match quality
- Correctness of exact, variant and comparable-product links.
- Exception rate
- Records needing review because evidence is missing or conflicting.
- Output consistency
- Use of the same price, unit and effective-date rules across results.
Outcomes
Why teams engage us
- Faster response to market price changes
- Lost profit found and recovered earlier
- Cleaner pricing and channel behaviour

Pricing & Profit Insights questions, answered
Common questions we hear about pricing & profit insights. If yours is missing, ask us.
Yes, product matching uses identifiers, descriptions, attributes and a set of review rules to link the same product across different retailers and marketplaces. Difficult or ambiguous matches are checked by hand rather than left to an algorithm alone. We report the match rate achieved so your team knows how much of your catalogue is covered. Matching improves over time as more edge cases are reviewed.
Cost depends on the number of products, competitors and marketplaces tracked, and how often prices need to refresh. We typically start with one product group or market as a fixed-price pilot, then quote a wider rollout once matching accuracy and alert value are proven. Ongoing monitoring is priced separately as a recurring service. This keeps early investment focused on the highest-value products first.
It covers more than price. The service also tracks promotions, stock, seller activity, marketplace listings and, when internal cost and sales data are connected, the effect on your margin. This means alerts can be ranked by profit impact rather than just by price change size. Teams get a clear view of which changes are worth acting on first.
Accuracy depends on source coverage and product matching quality, both of which are tracked and reported. We check completeness and freshness against agreed thresholds, and flag sources that fail or change format so the connection can be reviewed. Match rate is reported so you can judge confidence in category-level comparisons. Alerts are only sent once data passes these quality checks.
You provide the product list, competitors or marketplaces to track, and internal cost or sales data if you want profit-impact alerts. No changes to your systems are required since we handle the collection separately and deliver results to your existing dashboard or database. Access to internal cost data is optional but improves the value of the alerts. We agree thresholds and alert routing with you before launch.
A first working alert feed for one product group is typically ready in 2 to 4 weeks. This includes agreeing the product list and thresholds, building the collection and matching, and testing accuracy before alerts go live. Refresh frequency after that depends on the source and your business need, from daily to several times a day. Wider category or market coverage is added once the pilot proves useful.

Match part numbers across catalogues and price against the market daily
Fitment data, supersessions and competitor listings lived in separate catalogues, so the same part sat at three different prices across channels. DataplexLabs matched parts across suppliers and marketplaces, then tracked competitor pricing and stock daily so pricing teams could react the same day instead of the next quarter.

Clean a million-SKU catalogue and stop quoting below cost
A long-tail MRO catalogue carried duplicate SKUs, missing attributes and stale supplier costs, so quotes were slow and sometimes below landed cost. DataplexLabs normalised the catalogue, refreshed supplier cost feeds and gave quoting teams live cost-to-serve on every line.

Track rate parity and competitor pricing across booking channels
Rates drifted between the brand site, OTAs and wholesalers, and revenue managers only found out after the booking window closed. DataplexLabs monitored rates, availability and promotions across channels and compressed the reporting loop from weekly to daily.
